Germany Embassy Careers Fair
On Wednesday 16th October, a group of Year 10 and Sixth Form students travelled to the German Embassy Careers Fair.
It was an amazing opportunity that opened our eyes to the different German jobs that are available worldwide where we can use our German skills. We were encouraged to look at more sectors that involve the German language. Many of the companies we saw can also be found across England and in many different countries abroad.
We saw big companies like Hugo Boss, Goethe Institut, Lidl, Bloomberg, Bayern LB and ThinkGerman, which are very well- known internationally.
What we did
In groups, we had the opportunity to ask questions at their stalls, about their brand/product and what language skills are needed. We also learnt how the German language affected their business and how much it helped them, internationally. They told us how German is beneficial especially in future references. Businesses were promoting their brands by giving out products such as USBs, leaflets, information booklets, socks and pencils with basil on the ends to grow plants after use!
We consider ourselves lucky to have been given the opportunity to see how German is beneficial and could help in our future careers.
Sara, Taiwo, Natania - Year 10 German
On Wednesday 16th October, Frau Pigott and Frau Lacey took a number of German students to the German Embassy Career Fair.
We visited a lot of pop-up stalls, which were German or companies based in Germany. It was very educational, learning about German companies and how they affect our lives in England. It was also extremely fun, because not only did I learn some more ‘Deutsch’, but I also got some free items from the stalls.
Did you know that HUGO BOSS is a German Company?
Georgette - Year 10 German
Going to the German Careers Fair in October was a really insightful experience. There was a range of big companies, such as Hugo Boss and Bloomberg, so no matter what you wanted to do in the future, there was something to suit your interests. I also spoke to the Goethe Institut, which offers courses to improve your language skills. I would definitely recommend this trip for anyone who studies German.
