In all years, students are assessed formally by internal assessments/exams that are administered by subject staff in classrooms, except for Years 11, 12 and 13 where exams will be in the Sports Hall. Other year groups will use the Sports Hall in the summer term. In every subject, students will take a minimum of 3 assessments every year, one per term) The results from these assessments are used to inform the level that students are currently working at.
In Year 9, students begin their GCSE courses. These are linear with all written exams taking place at the end of Year 11.
NEAs (Non-Examination Assessments) have replaced coursework and controlled assessment in the majority of subjects and the number of NEA components varies between subjects. Students prepare for the NEA under the guidance of their subject teachers. Students will be informed of the dates for their NEA in advance and should be aware that they may be disadvantaged if they do not attend school on that date.
Students studying a BTEC course will take an external examination in addition to completing various units.
In all years, internal assessments are used to inform the grades that students are currently working at.
