Visual Arts Year 7
In Year 7 students learn about the formal elements and build and develop upon these skills through their study of Art. Students explore and develop their skills and understanding of Art’s formal elements by working onto projects based on Still life and a range of recognised Art Movements . Throughout year 7 students are introduced to a wide variety of artists and art movements, so that they can learn how different artists used formal elements in their work and can identify the characteristics of the main art movements in throughout the history of Art. Once these foundation skills have been learnt, students move on to focus on ‘Landscapes’, each exploring a range of media, artists and techniques. In the Summer term students work on developing key Art skills such as perspective, proportion of the body, textures and mark making, portraits, pattern and plaster casting.
Through this broad range of media and disciplines we aim to give our students a solid foundations in Arts.
Students in Year 7 participate in a trip to one of the main Art galleries in London.
Students will undertake Independent Learning Projects during which they will be given set tasks to complete over half a term in the form of a mini project. The first project will be given out in the Autumn Term and will be based around Art’s 'Formal elements’; this will reinforce the learning taking place during lessons. The second project will be given out in the Summer Term and will be based upon Art Movements.
