Carshalton High School for Girls is a highly successful school, judged by Ofsted in November 2017 as ‘Good’ in all categories.

First Impressions

Every year we ask new students and colleagues to our school to tell us their first impressions on joining our team and this is what they had to say:

The teachers were very helpful, they gave me a lot of courage to speak more in class. I love Carshalton High School for Girls as there are so many new experiences through the weeks I've been here. Students here are so nice and so helpful.

Zahra, year 7

From the moment you join, all members of staff at CHSG are welcoming and friendly, which creates a great working environment. Everyone is so supportive and willing to help. The induction programme for new staff is delivered by experienced colleagues and provides practical advice of how to improve your teaching practice.

Neil, Teacher

All the teachers at Carshalton High School for Girls have shown great determination to help us settle into high school. The students and teachers alike have been so welcoming and friendly and I knew my way around within weeks! I have loved becoming part of CHSG as I have joined a community full of people who want to help me develop emotionally and academically.

Bethia, Year 7

I joined CHSG in my training year as part of my SCITT placement and immediately knew I wanted to stay here. Students and staff alike made me feel welcome from my very first day, not only in my department but extended across the entire school.

Niamh, Teacher

This school is amazing, there are so many positive things about it. Number one is that here everyone welcomes you to the school; they are happy to help you all of the time and not only with your learning, but with issues outside of school as well.

Emily, Year 7

CHSG is a warm and welcoming place. From day one, staff were incredibly friendly and I was made to feel part of the school very quickly. It has been a pleasure getting to know new classes and new students who are motivated to learn and to do well. The school has lots of good systems in place which means day to day activity runs smoothly, and the new staff induction programme which helped me to learn more about the ethos of the school.

Ellen, Teacher

I thought that secondary school would be hard and I was really nervous, but from the first day I realised the teachers were really kind. The school started slowly without many sanctions and slowly introduced new rules to us. All of the older students are really nice and very soon I felt I had settled in.

Atreyee, Year 7

I felt comfortable at CHSG very quickly due to the warm welcome I received from all the staff. People went out of their way to make sure I settled in quickly and knew what to expect. The staff here really care about the school, each other and the pupils, and there is a strong emphasis on staff welfare. I am happy here and it feels like the perfect place to launch my teaching career.

Eleanor, Teacher

My first impression of the school was that is a lot kinder and people are a lot more polite than I was expecting and it was a great way to start a new school. I really like the morning Tutor Reads programme as it is a great way to start the morning and get my brain ready for the upcoming lessons.

Julia, Year 7

From the moment I started at CHSG I felt so welcome. Staff are friendly and supportive.

Senior leaders have an open-door policy and are always happy to talk.  The students are happy, respectful and ambitious.  I'm loving being part of #TeamCHSG

Laura, Support Staff member

My first impression of the school was that everyone was really helpful. I like how each week is different, unlike primary school, because that means there's variety and it isn't repetitive.

Jean, Year 7

Joining a new school can be daunting, yet the staff at CHSG made me feel incredibly welcome and helped me quickly settle in. All the staff are willing to help you, even those outside of your department which I feel is quite unusual for a school. As you walk around from lesson to lesson, both staff and pupils say ‘hello’ helping to create a really friendly environment. The pupils are hardworking, ambitious and polite and are a real pleasure to teach. It is a privilege to be a part of #teamchsg

Chloe, NQT

The teachers are absolutely amazing. They could really empathise with what I was feeling and adapted from that to make me feel welcome. I love how they're raising money for charity and have Sixth Formers who create clubs for us to help us learn after school. I can't wait for what has to come in the future at CHSG

Aishu, Year 7

CHSG has a warm and welcoming community that made me feel included from day one, even extending beyond my own department. I am delighted to have joined a dedicated and knowledgeable team of staff who consistently show genuine care for colleagues, students and CHSG as a whole. It is easy to feel at home and visualise a long term career here.

Connor, NQT

The school has made me feel very welcome and at first when I was nervous, they reassured me that everything would be OK. The teachers have played a big part in making me feel welcome because this is a large school and I didn't know where to go but they were the first people I asked.

Ghizal, Year 7

CHSG is a team. You feel welcome from the first day. As a former trainee, I was excited to return to the school. My department is supportive and it feels like a second home. All staff are approachable and the students are great. The school has a core focus of excellence and this can be felt all around!

Rhia, Teacher

When I came to Carshalton High School for Girls I felt very nervous but all the teachers were so welcoming and so kind. The first week I didn't know where to go, I got lost, but the students in the older years helped me to get to my classes so there was no need to be afraid.
