    The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) at CHSG

    At CHSG all sixth form students have the opportunity to complete an Extended Project Qualification. This is a Level 3 (A-Level standard) qualification, graded A*-E and worth up to 28 UCAS points. Students choose a topic, carry out independent research, produce a report and give a presentation on their findings.  

    Benefits of taking an EPQ
    • Development of research, academic writing, critical thinking, time management and presentation skills highly valued by universities and employers. 
    • Students become used to university-style independent working. 
    • Opportunity to study a topic of your choice in-depth, and become an expert on something you are passionate about.  
    • Reduced/alternative offers from a number of Universities. 
    • Something individual to talk about in personal statements and interviews to make your application stand out.  
    Course Content

    Students can choose to produce: 

    • A report (5000 words)  
    • An artefact and a short report (1000 words) 

    Students are expected to spend around 120 hours on their EPQ- 30 guided in school and 90 independently.  

    EPQ Format at CHSG

    • Students sign up at the end of Year 12 and hand in the EPQ in April of Year 13. 
    • All students meet regularly one-to-one with a supervisor. 
    • 1 hour lesson per week on research and writing skills.
