  • CHSG CARES – Celebrating Our School Values

Last term marked an important and exciting milestone for our school, as we introduced, embedded and celebrated our School Values in a new and meaningful way for the very first time. These values sit at the very heart of our school community and underpin everything that we do — from learning in the classroom to relationships, opportunities and achievements beyond it.

Throughout the term, students and staff brought our values of Community, Accountability, Resilience, Empowerment and Sisterhood to life every day. We were incredibly proud to see our students championing these values through their actions, showing kindness, determination, confidence and leadership across the school.

Here are just some of the many ways our school community lived our values last term:

    Community

From eye-catching anti-bullying posters and powerful videos promoting kindness and inclusivity, to active involvement in the CORE group, students worked hard to ensure everyone felt heard, valued and supported. Staff–student activities, including the ever-popular teacher's vs student football, along with whole-school events, helped to strengthen relationships and create a real sense of belonging.

Students showed generosity and compassion through the Christmas Hamper drive and Macmillan fundraising, celebrated diversity through Black History Month door displays, and brought positivity and enthusiasm to form time, year-group activities and house events. Most importantly, students took time to celebrate each other’s achievements and successes.

    Accountability

Students demonstrated fantastic commitment across the term, whether through Girl Guides, TimeOut Boxing, Sutton United, Crystal Palace football or collaborative team projects.

Regular attendance at clubs, practices and extra-curricular activities showed dedication and responsibility. Behaviour across the school was consistently positive, with 93% of students maintaining no behaviour levels throughout the term.

On trips, visits and off-site events, students represent the school with maturity and pride, acting as excellent ambassadors.

    Resilience

Resilience was evident throughout the term as students and staff supported one another through challenges with empathy and perseverance. Year 7 students successfully navigated the transition from primary school, adapting confidently to new routines and expectations.

Many students stepped outside their comfort zones by taking part in clubs, workshops and new opportunities, and they embraced stretch-and-challenge tasks, showing determination even when learning felt tricky.

    Empowerment

Whether performing confidently in the Winter Concert or shining in other school showcases, students develop self-belief and pride in their achievements. Through Student Council and Student Parliament meetings, students shared ideas and helped shape positive change within the school.

Leadership booklets supported students in developing key leadership skills, while involvement in the Sutton Youth Councillors programme and first aid training empowered students to make a difference both in school and in the wider community.

    Sisterhood

A strong sense of sisterhood was clear across the school. Students led and took part in CORE group assemblies that promoted unity and belonging, participated in Girl Guides workshops that built friendships and teamwork, and engaged enthusiastically in external Law Workshops and Diana Award sessions. Peer mentoring allowed students to support and inspire younger students, while collaboration shone through during Pineapple Dance Studios workshops, exams and animation sessions, where teamwork and encouragement were second to none.

    Pastoral Support Officers

We would like to take a moment to celebrate the incredible work of our Pastoral Support Officers (PSOs), who truly embody our school values every single day.

They take the time to care for every child, listening thoughtfully to their concerns and helping them work through challenges big and small. Whether it’s offering guidance, reassurance, or simply a friendly ear, our PSOs are always there to support students when they need it most.

Their compassion, dedication, and commitment to student wellbeing make a lasting difference in our school community, and we are so grateful for all that they do.

    SEND

We would also like to acknowledge the outstanding work of our Special Education Department and Learning Support Assistants, whose dedication and care make a meaningful difference every day. They work tirelessly to support students with diverse learning needs, providing patience, encouragement, and personalised assistance to help every child succeed.

Through their commitment, expertise, and genuine care, they create inclusive learning environments where students feel supported, valued, and confident. Their work behind the scenes and in classrooms alike plays a vital role in helping all students reach their potential.

This first celebration of our School Values has shown just how deeply they are embedded in our school community. We are incredibly proud of our students and staff for living these values every day — and this is only the beginning. We look forward to continuing to recognise, celebrate and build on our values as we move forward together.

We would also love parents and carers to be part of this journey by letting us know about their child’s achievements outside of school, whether in sports, clubs, the arts or the wider community. We encourage families to talk about our School Values at home too, helping to reinforce their importance and celebrate how our students live both in and beyond school.
