Curriculum

Whole-school curriculum vision

At Carshalton High School for Girls, our curriculum is designed to raise aspirations and foster a culture of learning. We want every student to achieve far beyond their starting point. Our subjects are carefully planned to challenge and support students so they become knowledgeable, curious, resilient and confident young women, ready for successful and fulfilling lives.

Fair access to knowledge sits at the heart of what we do. Our curriculum aims to improve life chances for all students, regardless of background, and is designed to be ambitious, challenging and accessible. We offer a broad range of courses so that all students can pursue their talents and career goals.

We take pride in being a school for girls and in actively promoting both social and gender equity. Our curriculum provides a high-quality academic offer and ensures all students access a rich and balanced body of knowledge, with adjustments made only when necessary to meet specific learning needs.

All subjects meet national curriculum requirements and are guided by our core principles. Lessons build knowledge step by step and are sequenced to help students remember and apply what they learn. Key topics, vocabulary and assessments are carefully planned to address misconceptions, develop understanding and strengthen confidence. British Values and spiritual, moral, social and cultural development are woven throughout.

Language and literacy underpin every aspect of our curriculum. We explicitly teach subject-specific and academic vocabulary to broaden understanding and enable students to communicate clearly and confidently. Our Literacy Curriculum ensures students encounter a wide range of texts and ideas across subjects.

Our curriculum is not only about meeting national expectations but also about enriching students’ lives. It links with our Leadership, Pastoral, Literacy and Careers programmes to prepare students for their next steps in education, work or training.
