We are pleased to confirm the introduction of the Arbor Parent Portal and app. This will support our communication with you, enable you to manage many aspects of school life and keep track of things all in one place. You can log-in to the portal and use the app from today. There are limited functions available until 16th March when payments and other school systems are due to switch across and the portal and app will have full functionality.  

From the 16th March, the Parent Portal and app will allow you to: 

• Report absences on the day of absence 
• Make payments for food and trips (replacing ParentPay) 
• See your daughter’s timetable 
• Update administrative details about your daughter 
• Give consent for trips and visits 
• Access attendance and behaviour data 
• Receive In-App messages 

Accessing the Arbor Parent Portal and app 

To access the Parent Portal, you will just need to set a username and password. You can do this by going to https://carshalton-high-school-for-girls.uk.arbor.education and then clicking on ‘First time logging in?’ and then following the instructions on screen. 

• Your username is the email you use to receive contact from the school. 
• You will also be asked to enter your daughter’s date of birth. 

You will need to log in to the Arbor Parent Portal before you can use the Arbor app, which is available to download for free in the Apple Store or Google Play Store (search ‘Arbor’). If you do not wish to use the app, the online Parent Portal has all the same functions except for In-App messaging. 

In order to gain access to the Parent Portal, parents/carers each need to have a separate email address in their contact details and not have a shared email address. Shared email addresses will be assigned to the first named contact unless it is clear that the address belongs to a named individual. If any email addresses need to be updated, please email the School Office at office@chsg.org.uk 

If you have not already done so, please add no-reply@mail.arbor-education.com to your safe senders list.  

The Parent Portal will be live with full functionality from Monday 16th March at 8.00am, but please start to register for the portal from today. 

Payments 

Please remember that ParentPay will cease to accept payments on Thursday 12th March and top-up payments will not be possible until Arbor Pay goes live at 8.00am on Monday 16th March. Any ParentPay balances will automatically transfer across from ParentPay to Arbor Pay. 

Attendance 

Until Friday 20th March, we will continue to offer the option of reporting absence using the email address: absence_reporting@carshaltongirls.org.uk. After this date, please use the Arbor Parent Portal or app or telephone 0208 647 8294 (select ‘attendance’) to report on the day of absence. 

The process for planned leave of absence is unchanged. You will still need to complete the form available on our website, where you will also find further advice and support: Carshalton High School for Girls – Attendance & Punctuality.

Iftar is the evening meal served at sunset to break the daily fast during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. It marks the end of fasting from dawn to sunset. 

The Iftar will take place on Wednesday 25th February 2026 in the Sixth Form Block. The time to break fast on this day is 5:34pm, and we kindly ask families to arrive from 5:15pm so that we can gather and prepare together before Iftar begins.

This will be a special and meaningful evening, centred on togetherness, reflection, and shared celebration. We warmly welcome families from all faiths or no faith and all backgrounds to join us, whether you are observing Ramadan or simply wish to be part of this community event.

3. The lyric hunt is an activity students can take part in individually. Posters of staff members' favourite lyrics will be displayed around the school, and students will be given a sheet with song titles and a clue about which member of staff might have chosen those lyrics. Their job is to match the lyrics to the song title and the correct member of staff! 
4. The lyric story is for tutor groups to enter. Across the week, tutor groups will have to decide on a key theme and find songs that include this theme that they can magpie lyrics from to structure a story. Tutors will guide our students to generate these lyric stories across registration.  

Submissions for the lyric hunt are due to Miss Edwards – medwards@carshaltongirls.org.uk (A3) and lyric story submissions are due to Miss St Catherine - cstcatherine@carshaltongirls.org.uk (A4) by Friday 6th February. 

The winners will be announced next week. All participating tutor groups will earn house points for their houses. £10 and £15 Amazon vouchers will be awarded to the individual who wins the lyric hunt and the tutor group that produces the most engaging lyric story, respectively. 

Please encourage your daughter's participation! 

There will be a temporary suspension of the "plain black or navy-blue" part of the Headscarf/Hijab rule in our uniform policy for the day. As such, students will be allowed to wear any patterned/colourful headscarf/hijab they might wear at home or outside of school! 

Please note for clarity that this is a temporary suspension of part of the uniform policy, it is not a non-uniform or "dress up" day. 

This recognition aims to raise awareness, encourage conversation, and celebrate the diversity within our school community.

Throughout the term, students and staff brought our values of Community, Accountability, Resilience, Empowerment and Sisterhood to life every day. We were incredibly proud to see our students championing these values through their actions, showing kindness, determination, confidence and leadership across the school.

Here are just some of the many ways our school community lived our values last term:

Carshalton Girls has always had a thriving reading culture, and this exciting development is firmly rooted in student voice. At last year’s GLT Conference, our Head Girl, Arianne C, was asked by Mr Baumann-Winn, “What would you like most to see as a next step for our school?” Her response — “We want a library again!” — perfectly captured the wishes of our students and marked the beginning of this inspiring journey.

Since then, a dedicated team of Sixth Form students have brought this vision to life. Our Chief Student Librarians — Eliza S, Mariem O and Teeya P — have demonstrated outstanding leadership, commitment and passion for reading. They have carefully sorted books from our former Library Resource Centre, ordered new titles, and designed a clear and accessible categorisation system to support all readers.

With expert training from Miss Trout, the Chief Student Librarians and a new team of Year 12 volunteer Student Librarians have been trained to use our library management system, Accessit. The Community Library will be open at break times and after school, allowing students to borrow and return books with ease. All students are automatically members, using their existing Accessit accounts from the English Wider Reading curriculum.

True to its name, the Community Library places students at the heart of everything it does. Suggestion boxes at the end of the gondola bookshelves will allow students to request new titles, ensuring the collection continues to reflect their interests and voices.

As a long-serving teacher and Strategic Lead for Literacy, it has been both inspiring and heart-warming to watch this student-led initiative come to fruition. Congratulations to our fantastic new Librarians, and a very warm welcome to all Carshalton High students — this is your Community Library.

Developed by SSAT (the Schools, Students and Teachers network) and Fig Tree International, the Race and Conscious Equality (RACE) Charter Mark is for schools, academies and colleges, both in the state and private sectors, in the UK who wish to demonstrate their commitment to action and improvement in relation to race equality in all aspects of their work as educators employers and community leaders.

To achieve the Charter Mark Carshalton High School for Girls School completed a comprehensive package of training for governors, senior leaders and middle leaders, and submitted an evaluation detailing their work towards equality so far and an action plan pledging their commitment to ongoing development in this area.

Festive Non-Uniform Day – Supporting the Year 13 Prom

We will be holding a Festive Non-Uniform Day on the last day of term to raise money towards the Year 13 Prom.

Students who wish to participate are kindly asked to make a £1 donation. Donations can be made in school or via ParentPay.

Festive Non-Uniform Day Guidelines

Students wearing non-uniform must adhere to the following expectations:

• Shoulders and stomachs must be covered (no vest tops or crop tops).

• Underwear must not be visible (no sheer tops or see-through leggings).

• Jeans should be smart; skirts must be at least mid-thigh length. No shorts.

• No false eyelashes or acrylic nails.

• School bags and lanyards must still be worn.

• Make-up and jewellery are permitted but should not be excessive.

🎄 Christmas jumpers and festive accessories are encouraged!

If students have a PE lesson on this day, they must bring their PE kit as usual and change into appropriate sportswear for the lesson.

We are pleased to announce a Christmas After-School Event on Friday the 12th December, taking place in the Sixth Form Common Room. Tickets are £4 and include food and a drink. Students can enjoy festive games, music, prizes, and a Christmas raffle.

We are excited to announce a festive treat for all Year 7 students — our annual Christmas Movie Night is back! This year we will be screening the holiday favourite Elf, starring Will Ferrell.

Time: 3:30–5:00 PM
Location: School Hall

Tickets are just £3, which includes a serving of popcorn to enjoy during the film. Drinks will also be available to purchase for £1 each. Tickets are available online through Parent Pay.

This is a fantastic way for Year 7 to celebrate the holiday season with friends, laughter, and a classic Christmas film. We hope to see as many of you as possible for a cosy, festive afternoon.

Come along, get into the Christmas spirit, and don’t forget… the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!

The aim is to take a stand against fast fashion by re-homing clean, undamaged items—clothes must be clean, with no holes, broken zips, or missing buttons.

All donations will contribute to each house’s total, and after the competition, students will be able to choose up to three free second-hand items, with the number increasing if donations allow.

Please send in any suitable clothing by Tuesday 9th December, with redistribution taking place after school on Tuesday 9th December. Thank you for supporting this sustainable project and helping us make a positive impact within our community.

To mark this special occasion, we are honoured to welcome Stephen Kelman, award-winning author of Pigeon English, who will officially open the library in partnership with our English Department. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to meet a renowned writer and ignite their own passion for stories and creativity.

Our new library will be run by dedicated student volunteers and will be open in the Careers Centre (A30) during break, lunch, and after school. Students are warmly invited to explore the space, discover new books, and become part of a growing reading community.

We can’t wait to open the doors and celebrate this exciting new chapter with you!

All details and entry instructions have been shared with students via email and a PowerPoint presentation. Entries can be submitted over the half-term break, and House points will be awarded for creativity, effort, and originality.

We can’t wait to see the wonderful work our students produce – and to find out which House will come out on top this term!

Students are invited to wear a pink accessory (for example, socks, ribbons, badges, or hairbands) and make a £1 donation. Donations can be made via Parent Pay or brought in on the day.

This will be a House competition – let’s see which House can raise the most money! All funds raised will go towards supporting breast cancer charities, a very important cause that links closely to our school values of community and sisterhood. Let’s come together, wear pink, and show our support!

This year's theme is 'PLAY'. The CHSG Poet Laureate will be supported by the English team to write and perform poems to mark significant events at our school.

During PM Tutor-time on Thursday 2nd October, tutors will guide our students to generate ideas for their own poems. Students are encouraged to be as playful as possible with their poems.

They can submit them written or recorded, with/without music or dramatised.

Today our school marked the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning – though in our case it was all about the cake! Parents, carers and staff kindly donated a fantastic selection of cakes, which our students were able to purchase throughout the day.

Thanks to the generosity of our school community, we raised an amazing £550 for Macmillan Cancer Support. This vital charity helps people living with cancer and their families receive the support they need.

Events like this show the power of our community spirit. Thank you to everyone who baked, bought, and supported — you’ve made a real difference. A massive thank you to our Sixth Form leadership team who kindly organised the event.

Students achieved our highest percentage of A*-C grades at A level in recent years. Achievement in our BTECs was again exceptional.

We are especially pleased with our positive (provisional) Subject Value Added score of +0.25, indicating student performance across subjects at a quarter of a grade higher than the national average for students with the same GCSE scores.

These are truly impressive results and testament to the quality of the teaching at Carshalton Girls, as well as the hard work and diligence shown by our departing Year 13s. We send our best wishes to them all as they now go about preparing for their exciting next steps.

Non-uniform day

A reminder that the last day of term (Friday 18th July 2025) will be a non-uniform day. 

Students wearing non-uniform must follow the guidelines below to ensure clothing remains appropriate for a school environment:

If your child has PE on Friday, they must still bring their PE kit and will be expected to change into appropriate sportswear for their lesson.

We will be collecting voluntary donations for non-uniform day via parentpay. All money raised will go towards a memorial bench for Pauline Mellish, a much-loved member of our office staff who sadly passed away.

To celebrate World Environment Day, on Wednesday the 11th of June, the Year 7 Geography Society have planned a day full of events.

Money raised through these events will go towards the school adopting an endangered snow leopard through the WWF charity. This will help protect the species and support the WWF's work in conservation schemes.

Money will also go to the Pack for a Purpose charity, which will provide school supplies to schools in South Africa.

Craft Sale

The Geography Society will be setting up a craft sale, selling handmade goods. This includes origami, bracelets, notelets and bookmarks. Prices start from 10p up to £1.50.

There will also be a station where students can make their own bracelets during the lunchtime break. This will be £1 to take part in.

Bake Sale

The Society will also be running a bake sale on the day during break and lunch times outside the Sixth Form block.

Prices will range from £1 and upwards.

We would love it if you could help us by donating cakes/ bakes!

Please bring in any donations on Wednesday the 11th of June before AM tutor time to the sixth form common room and label these with your form group.

If you are donating homemade items, please ensure to label the product with all ingredients used.

House points will go to the house which brings in the most donations!

Raffle

To win your own snow leopard soft toy, we will be holding a raffle. Tickets will be £1 and there will also be more soft toys to be won.

Please make sure students bring in cash to raise money for these wonderful causes and to help us achieve our goal of adopting a snow leopard.

We would like students to wear clothing or cultural attire that represents themselves through their culture, their heritage, or their identity.  Ideas for what pupils might like to wear include:

• Traditional dress from a student’s culture or heritage
• Clothing that contains the national flag or clothing in the colours represented in their country’s flag
• Clothing that represents who they are and how they identify, for example rainbow colours for LGBTQ+ students and allies
• A kit or uniform that is of personal importance to that individual, for example Cadets, Scouts, a sports team for which they play, or perhaps even their school House colours. 

The aim is to encourage all students to explore and discuss with others who they are and how they identify in a positive and joyful way, promoting and celebrating diversity and equality. With this in mind, it is important that students do not wear or bring any items of clothing or accessories that could in any way be offensive or cause harm to others. Students must not dress in a way that conflicts with our school’s values.  In particular, students must not wear any items that promote particular political views, or which could be seen to insult others, whether individually or as a group, or promote or justify violence, or the oppression of others in any way.  We expect all students who participate to show appropriate sensitivity to their peers. 

Similarly, we would request that students do not simply come wearing a tracksuit or similar, like on a regular non-uniform day; the aim is that everyone can enjoy learning more about others in our community. If pupils do not wish to participate, they should wear school uniform as normal. If you have any questions about the suitability of the items that your child would like to wear, please contact us in the first instance.

Students in Years 8 and 12 will have their ARD on Thursday 8th May. Parents and Carers are invited to book an appointment to meet with a member of the year team (Tutor, Head of Year or a member of the SEND team) to discuss their progress. ARD gives parents/carers the opportunity to raise any concerns or issues, as well as hear feedback on their behaviour and involvement in the wider school community.

Appointments can be booked here: chsg.schoolcloud.co.uk, and we expect students to attend with their parent/carer. 

Students will work from home and have a remote learning day. Work will be set through our MS Teams platform.

The 10-minute appointments will take place either face to face, at school, or online. The face-to-face appointments are between 8.30am to 10.30am and the online appointments are between 10.40am and 2.30pm. Please only book for one meeting. If you are coming into school, make your way to the student entrance five minutes before your appointment so we can register you and take you to the correct room. There is no parking available on the school site.

Please bear in mind that the schedule is very tight and we will have to keep to time; if you wish to continue the discussion after the allotted time, please feel free to make a follow-up appointment.

Tuesday 22 April 2025 (week 1)

All students return to school to register at 11.00 am. The school gates will be open at 10.40am. The first lesson will be period 3.

We ask that you and your daughter carefully consider these choices and select subjects that are balanced and meet her strengths and aspirations. We will endeavour to meet the choices of each individual student, but unfortunately, this cannot always be guaranteed. The viability of any course is dependent upon the number of students who select it and the staffing available to us.

The judging panel consisted of 5 English teachers and 2 A-level English scholars (who were previous writing competition winners). It was wonderful to read all the entries and discuss their merits. We certainly have some very talented writers at CHSG! Our winners were Soumya M (Y10) and Sarah J (Y7) who both produced fabulous, imaginative stories. 

Soumya's science fiction tale, 'Starlight and Shadows' was set on the spaceship Celestial Dawn, where Audrey Hepburn, the ship's cultural diplomat, must convince yet another cosmic warlord that peace and understanding can be won at very little cost to humankind. 

Sarah's Audrey Hepburn in her story, 'Stardust', is suddenly transported from a Parisian café in 1961 to the year 2147. Dodging hovertrams, flying cars and drones in her heels is a big problem. But escaping Project Eternal to become a Kindness Robot is an even bigger one!

Students are encouraged to bring in baked goodies (with full ingredient lists) on this day and drop them off in the Sixth Form Common room.

The bake sale will run during breaks and lunch times to raise money. This will also be run as a house competition. Whoever raises the most money will win!

There will be a mix of prices, so there is something for everyone. Please bring cash.

Tickets are £3 and can be purchased on Parent Pay.

The events will be hosted by the Year 11 prom committee, who will be raising funds for their prom.
