Travel and Tourism affects everyone’s life and it is one of the fastest growing and most dynamic industries in the UK. This popular course will provide you with essential skills, knowledge and understanding of the travel and tourism sector. The qualification provides a broad background and allows progression to further / higher education, training or employment. The course covers areas such as investigating the overall travel and tourism sector, the Business Environment that travel and tourism operates in as well as Marketing, Human Resources, Customer Services and European and UK Tourism Destinations.
The Travel and Tourism department is a popular choice at sixth form and the results achieved by students are very good. We have high expectations of all our students on this course and keep in touch with those on degree courses in this subject or those who are now working within the industry. Some of our students can go on to study this subject at university to degree level. Courses followed have been International Tourism Management, Airline and Airport Management and Tourism Management.

How will I be assessed?
Over 2 years you will complete 6 units of work.
All of these BTEC Diplomas are 100% course work and a portfolio of work is completed for each one.
What qualifications are needed to take the course?
The most important things you need are a lively and enquiring mind, an interest in travel and tourism, a willingness to explore new ideas and an ability to communicate your ideas effectively.
You should have 5 grades 4s at GCSE in 5 different subjects.
Good attendance, punctuality, self-motivation and an interest in the subject are also relevant.

This course will allow you to develop a broad understanding of working environments in the travel and tourism industry. You will also develop communication, presentation and employability skills. Learning to identify, select, collect and collate evidence using a variety of resources and range of techniques, including statistical data.
