Science Year 9
In Years 9-11, students complete a programme of study leading to certification in Combined Science (Trilogy) or three separate GCSEs in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Assessments
All content is examined at the end of Year 11. Students will have regular assessments during the year to track their progress and understanding of the content.
Specification details
Students are following the AQA GCSE (9-1) specification. Students following the Combined Science (Trilogy) or Triple Science route will cover the same topics, with Triple Science students covering some of these topics in more detail. During Year 9 students will cover the topics outlined below.
Biology
- B1: Cell level systems
- B2: Scaling Up
Chemistry
- C1: Particles
- C2: Elements, compounds and mixtures
Physics
- P1: Matter
- P2: Forces

Practical Skills
As part of the new specification, students will cover and participate in required practical work to develop their practical skills and their understanding of how science works. Students can expect to be examined on their understanding of this practical work at the end of the course.
