Numeracy at CHSG
At CHSG Numeracy we use the 5 a Day logos to support teaching of the key areas of Numeracy across all subjects.
These logos are displayed in all classrooms to remind staff and students of the need to make connections between their subject and the key Numeracy areas of:
- Proportion and ratio
- Weights and Measures
We ask staff to make reference to these areas when and if they appear in their lesson to help students to see the relevance and importance of Numeracy across the curriculum.
Each tutor group in Key Stage 3 has a Numeracy Leader and Deputy who help to run the Numeracy Ninja programme (outlined below). They will meet with Mrs Foley to check in on how these sessions are running and to give names of students who are improved or continually achieving high scores in these sessions.
Tutor Time Activities
In Year 7 and 8 students take part in the Numeracy Ninja programme, where they complete a set of mental maths questions during their Numeracy allocated session in tutor groups, and our Numeracy Leaders in each tutor group record results and run the session for the class. Students will get rewards for improvement and for high achievement (consistent Black or Brown ‘belts’).
In Key Stage 4 we have a more GCSE focussed approach with tutor groups being given specific Maths based work to complete in Numeracy allocated tutor sessions.
