First Day of School

As we head towards your return to school I wanted to write to you tell you how much we are all looking forward to welcoming you back to our school.

I know there will be some who are incredibly excited and cant wait to get back but others who will be a little anxious.  I want to reassure you all that we are ready for you and a lot of planning and effort has gone into getting things right for everyone.  Of course you too will have to play your part to keep everyone safe and I need all of you to stop and think at all times.  I will see you all on the day you return and go through our expectations of you as there are some things that have changed that you need to be aware of.

You will no doubt be worried about the lessons you have missed since March but again we have plans in place to close the gaps fairly quickly.  A reminder that you must bring the booklets to each lesson once you receive your timetable – those who haven't attempted them will be made to stay behind each day to catch up on work.  I have sent guidance out to your parents/carers about how the school will operate and it’s important that you know these details before you arrive.

We will be welcoming some new members of staff and there are a lot of new changes that you will notice about the buildings – we really have been busy!

You can choose to wear a face mask if you wish in school.  The guidance from the Government says that students do not need to wear a mask in classrooms but they should do so if they are in corridors and communal areas such as the Main Hall, Canteen & 6th Form Common Room.  However if you wish to wear a mask in lessons you may do so.  It goes without saying that you wearing a mask should not be used to disrupt any lessons and your masks should be plain with no logos, motifs or slogans.

Some key information for the start of this term:

  1. You must arrive to school in full, correct school uniform.  A reminder that we expect you to arrive with a plain, black rucksack bag.  You will receive a lanyard and you must be wearing that at all times.
  2. You must arrive to the gate that is allocated to your year group. You will enter and exit that gate each day.
  3. You cannot come on site until the time that you have been allocated in our document
  4. There will be a uniform and equipment check each morning so please make sure you have all your equipment

Finally, we are still committed to being one of the best schools in this Borough.  I know that by raising our bar of expectation both in the classroom and in the playground for everyone that this is the best way to give you the education you deserve.  COVID-19 does not mean that we change that.  I want this year to be given an opportunity to be awesome.  I do not want it be labelled or judged before it even begins – this year may just surprise us in some interesting ways.

Take care

Mr M Devenney, Headteacher
