International Women's Day
In celebration of International Women’s Day, all three schools in the Girls' Learning Trust, Carshalton High School for Girls, Nonsuch High School for Girls and Wallington High School for Girls, have been involved in events across the schools organised by Joanne Cavey from the London Borough of Sutton.
On Thursday 7th March 29 ambassadors from a wide range of businesses attended a speed careers event at Carshalton Girls. This included several female business leaders from Reed Business Information, the Department of Work and Pensions, Subsea7, Epsom and St Helier Hospital, Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, Sutton College, XpertHR, PF Whitehead Transport Services, South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre, Sutton Housing Partnership and the London Borough of Sutton. There were entrepreneurs from companies such as Jane James Consultancy Ltd, She is You, and Eden Smith.
We would like to offer our thanks to all those who attended and spent over an hour answering questions from eager Year 9 students. Feedback from students was that they wished they had had more time to speak to individuals and to all those who attended.
‘It was helpful because we got to speak to lots of different people doing all different jobs.”
“It was a good experience. I like the people and the information was helpful.”
“I enjoyed listening about their jobs and the difficulties they had.”
Something new we have learnt today:
- What a CV should include
- You’ve got to go to school to get good careers
- To try lots of things and do what you love
- You need to push for what you want
- It is good to do something you enjoy
- Ways to stand out in an interview
