Spring Term Round-Up

The Spring Term was a short but extremely busy half term with a huge amount to pack in!

The Spring Term was a short but extremely busy half term with a huge amount to pack in!
Things are hotting up for Year 11 and Sixth Form students with examinations approaching very rapidly.  To support our students, staff have been working extremely hard running revision sessions outside of curriculum time as well as work continuing in lessons.  Over Easter an extensive revision programme was in place for Years 11, 12 and 13.
This has also been a very important half term for other year groups.  Year 10 students have been preparing for their Science core examination and sat a Pre-Public examination a few weeks ago.  This enables staff to see where the strengths and weaknesses are in students’ knowledge and skills and work to address those before the final examination.  Parents of Year 10 students are asked to work with their daughters to ensure they are preparing effectively.
Year 8 have also been busy starting on the options process with the Year 8 Options Evening on 19th March.  Individual meetings with members of the Senior Leadership Team and Miss Marshall continued through the last week of term before final decisions are made using the online system.
Around these key events a number of other activities have been organised and have taken place right across the school including a visit to the Globe Theatre, sports tournaments including a residential netball weekend, BBC Schools Report, fundraising for Red Nose Day, Jack Petchey’s Speak Out Challenge, Year 10 work experience and a visit by HSBC to talk to students in Modern Foreign Languages, to name just a few.  Many are covered in this month's edition of the newsletter.
This term we say goodbye to Mr Craig, who is retiring.  Mr Craig took up post at the school in 2008 and we thank him for his hard work to secure the highly successful outcomes he has achieved with our students in Music.  We wish him well for the future and a long and happy retirement.
We have also said goodbye to Mrs Booth who has gone on maternity leave. We wish her well on the birth of her baby.
New Build Update
Our new build is progressing and we are at the stage of finalising who the contractors will be and we hope that work will start very soon after Easter.  I will be writing to parents with further details as we will be making some changes to the day to day running of the school to accommodate the build.
New Year 7
Contact has been made with the Year 7 students starting with us in September and we look forward to starting our Induction Programme for what will be an expanded Year 7 in the new term (eight tutor groups instead of the usual seven).
Just a reminder as ever to ask for your support to ensure your daughter comes to school in the correct uniform and with all her equipment every day.  We wish our conversations with students to focus on their learning and progress rather than on basic matters that students should be undertaking every day.
And finally....
I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Easter and a wonderful break.  School re-starts on Monday 13th April with registration at 11:00am.
