Key Stage 4 Curriculum

Curriculum Structure

In Key Stage 4 students study a core offer of English Language and English Literature, Mathematics, Triple Science, History and/or Geography. The vast majority of our students will study a Modern Foreign Language, and therefore work towards the aspirational demands of the EBacc qualification. Students also continue to receive both Physical Education and discrete Personal Development supra curricular days.

Teaching goes beyond exam specifications with a focus on depth of learning and extensive transition to Key Stage 5 as a core part of the curriculum. Options at Key Stage 4 are responsive, in that they are designed around student choice as much as possible, rather than pre-determined blocks.

Students with additional needs still have access and are expected to study the full range of subjects at GCSE.  In very exceptional cases, a small group of identified students may choose to be supported with additional English and Maths, rather than choosing a second option.  We also offer pathways for a very small number of students who may need to take a reduced number of GCSEs or alternative qualifications aimed at developing confidence, engagement, abilities and life skills for future success.

We have a two-week timetable comprising 50 x 55 minute lessons. The table below shows the number of lessons per fortnight for each subject.
