First Impressions

Every year we ask new students and colleagues to our school to tell us their first impressions on joining our team and this is what they had to say:

I felt very nervous starting a bigger school and didn't know anyone coming to this school, but on my first day the teachers and students were very welcoming. I made friends quickly from my form and subjects. I feel very supported and comfortable.

I trained at CHSG on one of my PGCE placements last year and am so excited to be back. All the staff are so friendly and welcoming and i really enjoy teaching the students. I feel so lucky to be in such a supportive department and school as a whole. I cannot wait for what the year ahead will bring.

Yasmin, Teacher

Initially I was really nervous, but I had a lot of teachers to help me. My choice of subjects are varied, and I have a lot to look forward to doing. I really liked the lunched, they're really nice. Also, in my subjects I have been able to make loads of friends as everyone is so nice and friendly.

Avnee, Year 7

When I first arrived at CHSG, both students and teachers were very friendly. I immediately felt at ease and safe. I've enjoyed going to a wide range of lessons, especially Biology as we're able to do practical experiments. I have also made a lot of friends and I can't wait to spend the next seven years here!

Za'Heen, Year 7

When I first joined CHSG, all the students and teachers were very welcoming and nice. I have enjoyed going to my Art lessons because I can get creative and have a lot of fun. The school environment was a lot different from Primary School as we have a lot more independence. I received a lot of support from my fellow peers. I cannot wait to spend the next seven years at this school.

Lola, Year 7

I felt comfortable at CHSG very quickly due to the warm welcome I received from all the staff. People went out of their way to make sure I settled in quickly and knew what to expect. The staff here really care about the school, each other and the pupils, and there is a strong emphasis on staff welfare. I am happy here, and it feels like the perfect place to launch my teaching career.

Eleanor, Teacher

When I came to Carshalton High School for Girls I felt nervous however all the teachers and pupils were so welcoming and kind, they helped me get familiar with the school layout. I made friends with my peers quickly and easily as everyone was kind and polite. Now I am settled, I feel excited about my future in this school.

Tilly, Year 7

From the moment I started at CHSG I felt so welcome. Staff are friendly and supportive.

Senior leaders have an open-door policy and are always happy to talk.  The students are happy, respectful and ambitious.  I'm loving being part of #TeamCHSG

Laura, Support Staff member

Joining a new school can be daunting, yet the staff at CHSG made me feel incredibly welcome and helped me quickly settle in. All the staff are willing to help you, even those outside of your department which I feel is quite unusual for a school. As you walk around from lesson to lesson, both staff and pupils say ‘hello’ helping to create a really friendly environment. The pupils are hardworking, ambitious and polite and are a real pleasure to teach. It is a privilege to be a part of #teamchsg

Chloe, NQT

The teachers are absolutely amazing. They could really empathise with what I was feeling and adapted from that to make me feel welcome. I love how they're raising money for charity and have Sixth Formers who create clubs for us to help us learn after school. I can't wait for what has to come in the future at CHSG

Aishu, Year 7

CHSG has a warm and welcoming community that made me feel included from day one, even extending beyond my own department. I am delighted to have joined a dedicated and knowledgeable team of staff who consistently show genuine care for colleagues, students and CHSG as a whole. It is easy to feel at home and visualise a long term career here.

Connor, NQT

The school has made me feel very welcome and at first when I was nervous, they reassured me that everything would be OK. The teachers have played a big part in making me feel welcome because this is a large school and I didn't know where to go, but they were the first people I asked.
