All students study Textiles Technology as part of Design Technology in Year 7 and Year 8.
They are encouraged to design and make 3D products which encourages the practice of a range of new skills. The most imporant skills are the competent use of the sewing machine, fabric embellishment and fasteners, in order to complete their designs.
The projects follow the design process, starting with researching simlar products, designing, developing, making and finally evaluating their own product. Students' work should reflect the theory they have studied, for exam: their research, fabric properties, sustainability and correct use of equipment.
We are planning to offer Textiles Technology as a GCSE option in 2012.
