Take Your Daughter To Work Day 2018

National Take Your Daughter to Work Day –Thursday 26th April 2018

Year 8 are being offered the chance to take part in National 'Take Your Daughter to Work Day' (TYDTWD).
We do understand that for a variety of reasons it may not be possible for every Year 8 student to take part. To ensure students have equality of opportunity we would suggest asking relatives or friends if they would be able to accommodate students who are not able to accompany a parent or carer.
If a suitable placement is still not available students will need to be in school following normal lessons or other activities.  Parents should use their own judgement about where their daughter goes, however if parents/carers work at home or alone, it is unfortunately not a new learning experience or environment, therefore it is not suitable.
We hope that as many students as possible will be able to accompany and work shadow a parent/carer throughout a normal working day. Students will travel to and from work with that parent/sponsor and be covered by the 'Health and Safety' practices of the organisation that she is visiting and their insurance.  Students will be provided with a Take Your Daughter to Work Booklet that they should complete during the day. There will also be a small section to be completed by the person being accompanied.
Students should collect the booklet from Mrs Greenland when they hand in their contact form. This an opportunity for parents and carers to show students what they do and what is expected in the work place. At the parents’ information evening, we asked parents to think of the skills and qualities that are necessary for the world of work and how we can instill and explain the right attitude for work.
Communication, confidence and enthusiasm were a few of the key skills but body language and appearance are also important.
Students will attend debrief the morning after TYDTWD to discuss the day. Feedback from the accompanying adults would be gratefully received.
To widen the understanding and appreciation of the working world beyond the curriculum careers lesson, Year 8 students are being offered the chance to take part in National 'Take Your Daughter to Work Day'.
