Unit 1 Working in the Music Industry
 
The purpose of this assignment is to give learners a broad knowledge of employment opportunities in the Music Industry and the job undertaken by those who work in it.
 
Scenario
The Music Department needs a display showing the many areas of the Music Industry. The display will be for Years 7 and 8 as well as for any visitors passing through the area.
 

The displays will be in the music department and should be bright, clear, informative and exciting!! The display should show the wide range of musical organisations clearly showing what they do and how they fit together.

Unit 3 Planning and Creating a Music Product
 
The purpose of this assignment is to allow learners to apply skills to plan and develop a music product using skills appropriate for both the planning and production of the piece. Learners may focus on live performance or adopt a technical role.
Scenario
The Music Department puts on a concert every Summer. The aim is to showcase the variety of musical talent in school. As part of your planning role, you will be asked to create planning documents for the concert, including how you organise the venue, the staff, promotion for the concert, ticket production and distribution. You will also have to participate in a sound check, the set up or tidying up of the concert, and performing at the concert.
 
The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC Extended Certificate in Music consists of four units.

Where will this qualification take me?
Employment opportunities: Following completion of the Edexcel BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Music, successful candidates would be able to enter initial employment, at a junior level, in such areas as music teaching, music publishing or music industry promotions.
 
Further vocational and academic qualifications: The achievement of the Edexcel BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Music has the equivalence of 2 GCSEs graded A*-C. If you achieve an overall pass grade or better in the Edexcel BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Music, it is possible for you to progress further to the Edexcel BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Music which has the equivalence of 4 GCSEs graded A*-C. You could also enrol on another Level 2 programme in year 11, or to move on to a higher level qualification such as a Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National Certificate specialising in your preferred field in the sixth form.
