children problem solvingChildren’s Care, Learning and Development (CCLD) BTEC Level 2 Certificate

The BTEC in Children’s Care, Learning and Development course aims to develop the knowledge, understanding, skills and confidence that students need to prepare them for employment in the field of Childcare. It will also give students the opportunity to continue their study in the same vocational sector or a related one.

The CCLD course comprises of three units: Understanding Children’s Development; Keeping Children Safe and Communication with Children and Adults. Throughout the course students develop skills in time management, organisation, problem-solving, working to deadlines and working as part of a group.

 Assessment for this course is a combination of assignments and 60 hours work placement. The 60 hours of work placements is completed in year 10 is necessary students may catch up their hours during work experience.  Students gain 2 GCSEs at C or above on successful completion of the course.

Who should study this course?

This subject is for any student wishing to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life. It gives an overview of careers in Childcare or Early Years Education. It is suitable for students who wish to follow a vocational pathway.

How is it taught?

The theory work for the course is taught through a range of applied learning and assessment techniques with 60 hours supervised and monitored work placements. There are 3 core units of study: Children’s Development, Keeping Children Safe, and Communication with Children and Adults. All units require detailed written portfolio work. In year 11 students completed 2 units of work.

How will this course lead to careers involving Childcare?

With this qualification you could go on to further study of Childcare through BTEC Level 3 qualifications. This could eventually lead to a range of opportunities in the Childcare and Education areas of employment, for example, as a Nursery Nurse or a Childcare worker.
