Art Year 9 VCert

 This new VCert has been introduced for students to develop core areas and transferable skills such as communication, resourcefulness, self-motivation, problem-solving, imagination and creativity, reflection and critical awareness of self and external factors.
What is studied on the course?
In Year 9 students will be introduced to the following endorsements: Fine Art, Photography, Textiles and Three Dimensional Design.  In Year 10 through to Year 11 students will have the opportunity to develop the following skills:
 
  • use a range of primary and secondary sources to develop ideas
  • understand how artists and designers use visual language and formal elements in their work
  • explore and understand the properties of a range of art and design materials
  • select, use and apply a range of 2D and 3D techniques, processes, media and material in their art and design work
  • develop personal responses to artistic themes and design briefs
  • understand how artists and designers work in their sector, describing job roles and working methods including freelance working
  • determine areas of interest and skill for progression to further courses of study or employment.
How is it taught?
To be awarded the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Creative Studies: Art and Design, learners are required to successfully complete 3 mandatory units and 2 optional units. These can be selected by the students with guidance from teachers as follows:
 
Unit 01 Research and investigate sources of ideas in art and design

Who should study the course?
Students who are not studying MFL should consider this course. This qualification is designed for learners wishing to gain an understanding of the art and design industry and develop the basic skills across a range of areas and contexts within the subject.
