Spanish Spelling Bee Continued...

testedMrs Lopez, Keira (7CEM) and Brooke (7MDP) travelled by train to Homerton College, University of Cambridge to take part in the National Spelling Bee Competition held by the Routes into Languages Initiative.  They had to spell and correctly translate as many words as they could in one minute.  Competition was fierce but as Keira and Brooke have progressed this far from a total of 33,000 participants back in September we are already immensely proud of both of them.  They did not progress further on this occasion but they have already brought back to Carshalton High School for Girls two trophies for winning 2nd and 3rd place in the Regional Heats held back in March at the offices of the European Commission.

"Hola! Spanish Spelling Bee was brilliant; the final nail-biting, but the thrills were great!  Tension gripped us on the journey and practising was all we did.  We went through every word, every thought to gain victory.  We spent a while travelling there but once we reached it, it was worth the wait.  After taking a few photos of the entrance, we walked to the auditorium which was where the introduction was and we were told all about the 33,000 people who had entered.  Afterwards we were led to a small room in which the battle for first place would take place.  We didn't win unfortunately, but we played the game fairly.  To come about 15-20th out of 33,000 people.....I don't think we did that bad!"
