Learning Skills Days - 20th-22nd June - Year 8
Learning Skills Days are here again!
From 20th - 22nd June the school timetable will be suspended so that students can be taught in faculty areas for whole days.
Days will be themed around ‘The Olympics - The Greatest Show on Earth’, during which students will experience deep learning tasks focussing on Personal Learning and Thinking Skills: self-management, team-working, reflective learning, creative thinking, effective participation and independent enquiry.
The programme for Year 8 will be:
Wednesday 20th June:
‘Olympic Sites and Symbols’ with the Arts Faculty - students will engage in workshops creating medals, developing drama focussing on the Olympic ideals and some students will visit major London 2012 Olympic venues.
Thursday 21st June:
‘From Ancient Greece to Carshalton Girls’ with the English Faculty - students will research and create and demonstrate Olympic sports that can be staged in a classroom.
Friday 22nd June:
‘Olympic Style’ working with teachers from across the school - students will research, design and create Olympic dress for countries from across the world.
The timings of the school day will remain unaltered. Students need to come equipped for school and are to register as normal in the morning. Students will be expected to wear full school uniform as usual.
Students will engage in discussions in Tutor Time to promote reflection on their learning and evaluation of their learning experiences.
