Sixth Form Conference - Human Trafficking

The theme of this year’s Religious Studies conference was ‘Human Trafficking’.

This subject is particularly relevant in 2012, as it is anticipated that the Olympic Games will lead to an increase in this heinous crime.  Josie Smith from the International Justice Mission UK (IJM) gave the global overview on human trafficking and Detective Constable Peter Maynard provided the local perspective.

The students participated in a variety of workshops; including dance, art, creating games and producing an advertisement.  Some students planned and delivered an assembly to raise awareness on human trafficking and others organised and ran a very successful campaign on Friday 6th July.  A Mufti Day and the campaign raised vital funds to help IJM in their work.

The feedback from the students was very positive. One student said that the conference ‘influenced me to want to help abolish trafficking’ and another commented that it ‘has made me think about my career path’.
