Big Dance 2012 - Secret Project
Dance students from Carshalton High School for Girls took part in Big Dance 2012 at Westfield Shopping Centre.
On Friday 18 May 200 dancers of all ages and all styles performed in a secret pop-up performance at Westfield Stratford City and Westfield London. This was an ambitious, secret project developed by East London Dance and English National Ballet and directed by world renowned choreographer, Andre Gingras (Dance Works Rotterdam) with a fantastic team of dance artists lead by Laura Harvey. 200 dancers aged 9 - 90 years performed the 7 minute pop-up performance 4 times over the 2 Westfield sites attracting intrigue and interest from the shoppers.
This was a joint project with Carshalton High School for Girls and Greenshaw High School which was to celebrate the Olympic torch arriving in the UK and the start of Big Dance. CHSG students secretly rehearsed for two hours a week for over six weeks and performed twice at Westfield Stratford on the Bridge and then twice at Westfield Shepherds Bush in the atrium.
