Business Studies Competition
On Friday 3rd February a group of six AS Business Studies students and Miss Keating arrived at Bank station in central London ready to discover the city’s financial district and to compete in an inter-school Business and Accountancy competition.
Before we went to the competition we spent some time in the Bank of England. We searched the museum for answers to a quiz and we won a little prize for successfully completing it. We then made our way to Chartered Accountants Hall where the competition took place.
The competition was run by the ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants). Looking around the hall, the surrounding teams seemed to be from grammar and independent schools so the task ahead seemed a little daunting. We were issued with our business problem and soon had little time to worry about the other schools that were involved. Preparing our presentation tested out leadership, team work and time management skills, as well as needing to use our Business Studies knowledge. Once we had worked out our strategic plan for the business and found all the evidence we needed, we then had to construct our presentation.
The presentation we had to give was directed at a team of business professionals who posed as the owners of a business called ‘Puzzled.’ Three members of our team, Katherine, Hannah and Sumra pitched the idea in front of a room full of students, accountants and teachers. Our presentation wasn’t without nerves and a few stutters so when we left the stage, we couldn’t help but feel deflated. We watched all the other schools present and they were all amazing. It was then time to find out the results and.......... we were awarded runners up which we were so proud of! We were genuinely shocked but felt so happy that we had been rewarded for all our efforts.
We had a fantastic day and learnt a lot from it.
