An Exciting Half Term for Dance...

An exciting half term for Dance...........

Jam Free Sutton

Eight of our Year 9 students have been working on a project with dancers from Greenshaw, Wallington Girls and a choreographer from Rambert Dance Company. The students have participated in eight 2 hour workshops creating a rhythmically complex dance. This was performed as part of the Connect Festival in The Lillian Baylis Theatre at Sadlers Wells on 22nd March. The festival included performances from a variety of different secondary schools as well as professional dance companies. Mrs Jones and Miss Holland who went to see the girls perform were very impressed with the high standard of the dance shown by our Y9 students.

Secombe Show

The Rambert project above also gave the dancers the opportunity to perform at a local sharing at the Secombe Theatre on 12th March.  The students who took part in the first Royal Academy of Dance project were also invited to perform the piece they had created with Pamela Fleming.

Ignite

Our new dance event for GCSE and BTEC students set the stage alight with fantastic performances from all who participated. Thank you to all the people who came to support the students in preparation for their exams or assessments. We look forward to adding this event to our annual performance calendar.

Royal Ballet in Class

An invited group of students had the unique opportunity of watching the Royal Ballet in Class at the Royal Opera House. This was an excellent insight into the life of a ballet dancer and the girls commented that it was inspiring to see professional dancers working on their technique during their morning class.

Royal Academy of Dance

Our second project with the Royal Academy of Dance started this term with another group of our Gifted and Talented students. Pamela Fleming is preparing the students for a 'Borough Sharing' event in May where they have a chance to compete for a place to perform at the Southbank later in the Year.

Accumul8

Accumul8 is a Dance company for Year 8 students who are interested in taking GCSE Dance or BTEC Performance as an option. Nicola Harris, Royal Academy of Dance PGCE student, invited a selection of students to work on piece that was performed at Ignite.  More invites will be sent out after Easter.

Dance Leaders at Barrow Hedges

Three of our Year 12 Dance Leaders have been working with Year 2 students at Barrow Hedges Primary school to create an Indian influenced dance as part of an Olympic Dance Project. The girls have been very inspiring and the teacher at Barrow Hedges is very impressed with the work they have been doing.
