Homework
Research has shown that homework can make an important contribution to pupils' progress at school. It helps to consolidate learning, and also supports the development of independent learning skills. Homework will be set regularly, following a homework timetable.
Time to be spent on homework
The time needed for homework will vary but DCSF guidelines recommend:
| Year 7 - 8 |
45 - 90 minutes per day |
| Year 9 |
1-2 hours per day |
| Years 10 - 11 |
1½ - 2½ hours per day |
It is only possible to give averages since pupils work at different speeds and the nature of the tasks will require different amounts of time to complete them. Staff should aim to set homework that reflect the student's abilities so that the most able are stretched and the least able can complete the task in a reasonable time.
