Key Stage 3
At Key Stage 3, students study either French, German or Spanish. From Year 8 nearly all pupils study a second language. The CHSG Faculty approach to languages teaching is aimed at using the language for real purposes: Pupils are encouraged to communicate spontaneously in the foreign language in and out of class with their peers, language teachers and the language assistants. The students are motivated through the teaching which incorporates games, competitions and spontaneous interaction. The students are issued with National Curriculum levels in all four skills areas after assessments throughout the school year, so they can track their own progress.
Key Stage 4
At Key Stage 4, Students may continue with a language in Years 10 and 11. The writing element of the syllabus (25%) is assessed through coursework/ a written examination. The listening, reading and speaking elements (each 25%) are assessed through a final examination.
