The German Department

In German the course books used are Gute Reise and Klasse.

By the end of Year 7 students will have covered how to:

  • Greet others, introduce themselves and ask others about themselves in the Target language. Learn simple facts about French speaking countries.
  • Describe Family members and pets, name, age and colour of pets.
  • Describe what they learn at school and when, give opinions of school subjects and to ask to borrow school items.
  • Describe where they live and and the house they live in. To describe their room, what is in it and where those things are.
  • Talk about food and drink in Germany. To say what they eat and drink for different meals and say what they like, dislike and don’t eat. To be able to order food and drink in a café and to buy items of food.
  • Talk about the sports and hobbies they do and which sports and hobbies they like and dislike with reasons for their answers. To learn digital time and time phrases. To discuss TV programmes.

By the end of Year 8 students will have covered how to:

  • Describe the places in their town. To say what they can do in a town and make suggestions for going out. To say what they are going to do in town and ask others to join them. To ask for and give directions. To ask and tell others the best way to travel around town and to say which means of transport they use. To talk about pollution problems and what they can do to help.
  • Talk about the weather.
  • Talk about what they have done at the weekend.
  • Describe what they wear using colours.
  • Describe their families; personal details looks and personality.
  • Learn the parts of the body and say what illnesses they have and which parts of the body hurt.

By the end of Year 9 students will have covered how to:

  • Describe themselves, their character and their relationships with their parents, rules at home.
  • Give an account of their daily routine, household chores, pocket money and what they spend, save.
  • Say if they have any ailments and how long they have had them. Say what foods are healthy and unhealthy and give advice on how they improved their lifestyle.
  • Talk about their holidays.
  • Ask for Transport information and buying tickets; directions, desribing clothes and giving opinions.
