Year 10 Art Trip to the Tate Modern and National Portrait Gallery

On the 1st May Year 10 GCSE students travelled up to London to the Tate Modern and National Portrait Galleries.

In the Tate Modern students were able to explore three of the public galleries finding images and artists that related to their exam questions. Students spent time drawing in the gallery and making notes about their favourite paintings and art pieces. Upon leaving the Tate Modern the bad weather had started to lift so we walked along the Thames Path taking in the sights along the Southbank. This gave the students the opportunity to take photographs for their exam and coursework, looking at portraits and landscapes. Crossing the river at Charing Cross we headed up to Trafalgar Square and the National Portrait Gallery. This visit was particularly relevant for those doing Portrait work who were able to see a range of traditional, historic and contemporary portraits making notes and completing sketches as well as using the ICT facilities there to research and print relevant images and information.

All of the images, information and sketches completed on the trip will feed into the Year 10 Mock exam and their GCSE coursework portfolio.

A great day!
